Why It’s Time to Rewrite How We Sell

Most sales advice is outdated.

I didn’t start in sales.
I came from science and IT — and like most experts, I had to figure it out on my own.

I hired a coach and I took sales training. I followed it to a tee.
What I found was that the more I tried to sell “the right way,” the worse it felt — and the worse the results were.

That’s when I realised: it wasn’t me. It was the method.

The Lie We Were Sold

We’ve been taught that sales is a numbers game.

That rejection is part of the job. That objections mean someone’s still “in the pipeline.” That if we just followed up harder, we’d close the deal.

But in real modern B2B environments, that advice doesn’t hold up the way it used to.

Because most people saying “I’m not interested” aren’t rejecting you. They’re:

  • Busy
  • Misaligned
  • Already solving the problem elsewhere
  • Or being sold to before they feel seen

This isn’t rejection. It’s a signal. And it requires a different kind of rhythm.

“Every no brings you closer to a yes.”
Or “If they object, you just haven’t handled it right.”

They’re not wrong — but they’re incomplete.

In today’s market, it’s not about brute-force persistence. It’s about smart targeting, real timing, and respectful visibility.
